Yusuf Tayara is an Associate in Wallbrook’s London office, where he sits in our MENA team and specialises in anti-bribery and corruption focused investigations, as well as more strategic risk projects in the Levant and Egypt. His recent projects include a detailed source of wealth investigation on three high profile Lebanese politicians; a strategic risk assessment of Egyptian offshore gas; and a series of sanctions-focused investigations on biomedical and pharmaceutical companies operating in Syria and Lebanon. During his consultancy career, Yusuf has worked closely with clients in private banking, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, and telecommunications.
Prior to his time in compliance, Yusuf spent a year investigating human rights and judicial abuse in Egypt, where he gained his first professional exposure to the MENA region's uneven informational landscape. During that time Yusuf tracked hundreds of cases of judicial abuse in Egypt and elsewhere in the Arab world, working with a broad network of on the ground investigators and researchers to identify and summarise important court rulings and other official documents.
Having grown up in Syria, Yusuf had early exposure to the MENA region's opaque and highly informal business networks. He brings this familiar acquaintance, and his wealth of contacts in Egypt and the Levant to bear on complex investigations across the region. He graduated with a first class Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the London School of Economics, and holds a Master’s degree in the History and Philosophy of Science from the University of Cambridge, where he conducted original work on medieval Arabic scientific manuscripts.
