Nicholas Cheng is a Senior Associate in Wallbrook’s Hong Kong office, where he focuses primarily on integrity and compliance due diligence investigations in Southeast Asia .

Prior to joining Wallbrook, Nick spent nine years as a journalist for The Star, Malaysia’s largest English language newspaper, where he specialised in crime and political reporting. During this time, Nick covered the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal and the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, and participated in raids on human trafficking, drug and wildlife trade rackets, alongside Malaysian enforcement agencies.

Nick has also written extensively on cybercrime, and the use of technology in spreading terrorist material and political misinformation. In 2017, Nick joined the San Francisco Chronicle, on an exchange programme sponsored by the Daniel Pearl journalism fellowship. There he covered cybercrime and workplace misconduct in Silicon Valley start-ups.

Nick holds a master’s degree in Conflict Studies from the London School of Economics, and a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of South Australia. He speaks Bahasa Malaysia and Bahasa Indonesia fluently.
